Honestly, ebay is my favorite jewelry store. You only buy from someone who has
excellent feedback...and you can contact someone who has purchased from them to find out if the jewelry was what they expected. I bought a gorgeous almost 3 ct eternity band for $1,995. I ADORE it. It's breathtaking. The guy custom made it for me in my size after I contacted him. Also, I got a great deal on some diamond earrings that I was going to save up for but when I saw them...had to whip out my CC.
Do NOT buy clarity enhanced stuff, it's not worth as much in the long run. Ross-Simons had some pretty stuff. Ruby's can vary in color so it might take awhile to find what you're looking for. I haven't found very high quality jewelry at stores like Zales or Kays(all the diamonds sparkle in the store but don't once you leave!) I think there's always an exception though.
