Tootsie did the very same thing. The minute the door was opened she would sneak out and run up the street. I learned not to chase her, as they think it is a game, and will just keep on running. I now just say treat, (she knows what treats are) and she will turn around and come to me.
Boy, I know how scary this can be, and it is really hard to figure out what to do.
