I asked a breeder why she was breeding an 8-pound dog, and her reply was that it had other superb qualities such as excellent bone structure. I guess it would depend upon all the other qualities, but it does seem that having a great temperament is pretty common in yorkies. I might add that this breeder was having a problem with customers all wanting smaller dogs. Breeding is far more complicated than it first appears, you don't always get the trait you're breeding for. A small male dog may be the runt of the litter and his offspring could be huge, on the other hand, it's possible that your dog could have small puppies. That's why knowing the pedigree of the dog is so important, knowing what all the ancestors were like. |
