I didn't read this particular article, but this issue has been a topic of debate for a couple of years now.     
The protocol we've been following for our last two litters was distemper and parvo at 9 weeks and distemper/parvo/hep/parainfluenza (think that's right - we don't give corona or lepto) at 12 weeks.  That's it until they get another 4-way booster at 14 months.  We try to give the rabies as close to one year as possible.    
The adults are on a 3-year booster program with the older girls not getting any more boosters.     
The feedback from veterinarians is that their clients are not comfortable not giving annual vaccines.  I'm sure this is partially true, but it also is the bread and butter of their business and I think that may color their opinions.   
Thanks for bringing this up.  I'm anxious to hear how others are handling the issue and if anyone has had problems following a more relaxed vac protocol.
