Okay! I'm always shocked when some vets take such a radical first step in treating our pets. I mean, amitriptilyne right off the bat? If it were me, I would use DAP - which has been all over the pet community (and the vet community) as being a miracle for dogs who have, especially, separation anxiety. I just did a yahoo search - and here is just one store who has a few things you could read about : D.A.P.
From my nursing days, I was not a big fan of Amitript., for many reasons - so, it just kind of surprises me to see a vet put a dog on this drug so quickly before exhausting other things, ya know? |
I also, am surprised a vet would prescribe Elavil for a dog.
I took it for Migraines once and the side effects were awful.
It made me SO VERY THIRTSY, I was unable to go 10 minutes without a drink of water or a sucking candy.
It was so uncomfortable.
I stopped it after 2 weeks.
Check with your vet why he was going to let you sedate your dog like that.
I do not know about
D.A.P. but I would research anything before putting it in my dog's mouth OR my mouth for that matter.
Good luck with the separation anxiety issue.
