In my experience there is very little that will keep ticks off. I go over mine whenever we go anywhere they are likely to pick some up. I don't use anything for fleas even though I know there are some things that work but I'd rather not put those poisons into their bodies. I used a topical one time and 2 of mine had severe reactions to it. Never again. I don't know what I will do if I ever have a problem. Good luck and let me know if you find anything non toxic that works
