I can certainly see that a new mom would get a little agressive towards anyone with a new litter of babies; trying to protect them. At 12 days though seems a little odd. I'm not sure what you mean by "very aggressive". When Lexie had her pups, she would grumble/growl and go through the motion of wanting to bite my hand when I went to pick up a pup, but would never actually bite. If I remember correctly, by 12 days, she was spending less time in the box & was certainly more comfortable with us handling the pups.
I would guess your female will relax once again as the babies get older. Heck, by 5-12 weeks she'll probably be begging you to take them away for a while so she can rest & have some time to herself LOL
