Although I never trained the girls in a crate... I did try the playpen with Evie (my puppy).. All I can say is: patience patience patience!
Whether they cry or not.. don't give in.. remember.. it's NOT hurting them!
Let him out.. just to go pee... and put him back in... if he cries.. do the same.. if he doesn't pee... put him back.. that's it! Remember.. it's harder for you than it is for him.
