The best way to know what color your pup will be when grown is to know your bloodlines. If both parents have the dark steel blue silky coat then there is a good chance the pup will also. If you know what kind of coat the grandparents had then that would be even more helpful. It takes a lot more than a proper steel blue coat to make a champion. The dog has to be sound with proper balance, size, movement, personality, etc. That is why most show breeders keep puppies for so long because even at 12 weeks you cannot tell what the end result will be. Usually by 6 to 9 months you can have a pretty good idea if your dog is show quality.
