Those turkeys didn't bother anything, you should have stayed in your deer stand. Watch them, they'll let you know when something is in the area. They have many times better eye sight than you do and can spot even the tiniest movement long before you even know something is there.

Also, their presence will make the deer more comfortable and hopefully make them think there isn't a predator around.
