Hi Joeymom, I'm also a mom to a Joey, I don't use Pish pads, but you don't need to bleach the pad to get rid of odors. Bleaching is used more to destroy bacteria, and since urine is relatively sterile there is no need to bleach. Most pads should be washed using regular detergent, and no bleach or fabric softener, which builds up, and makes things less absorbent. When washing the pads, be sure you don't overcrowd your washer, so they get rinsed thoroughly.
I imagine the Pish pads are similar to bathroom throw rugs that have a rubberized backing, after awhile they become peely too. I guess it just depends how many times you could wash them before this happens. I have read about a spray-on product that makes things adhere to the floor better.
