up: yes. down: no lol. this is a question i have as well. Kash can get up the staircase really fast, but he can't get down them. he learned how to get up them probably within the first couple weeks i had him (about 2.5 months old). he'll be 5 months old this saturday and still refuses to come down the stairs no matter what i try to entice him with.
if he's on the very bottom step, he'll jump down to the ground. but if he gets up on the second step, he can't/won't jump down to the first step, even though it's just ONE step. i think it has something to do with the fact that he doesn't think there's enough room for him to land safely on the first step, but the ground is so big, it doesn't matter where he lands. i just don't think he can calulate the space yet. lol.
i hope he learns soon.
p.s. how big is your puppy? i think it might have to do with their size in determining when they'll learn to get up/down stairs. maybe a tiny dog has less confidence in him/herself when getting down stairs than a bigger dog would because a bigger dog has more length to reach the next step easier. longer legs would help with getting down stairs, don't you think? Kash is about 2.5 lbs and very small in size, so, the invert is much steeper for him than it would be for a bigger size puppy. does that make sense or am i just off my rocker?
