This is so personal to me. My neices are 5 and 6, and last year, their mother walked out on my brother-in-law. They are currently living at my in-law's house(8 people there!) Due to their living situation, they had to give away their cat, and they're having a lot of trouble with their dog, a doberman; he keeps getting out and the neighbors keep complaining to animal control. To top it off, my in-law's 13 year old lab dies last September. So I delight in it when my neices ask me if they can come over and play with my yorkie and chihuahua. They need that sort of unconditional love. I hope your neice will make many wonderful memories with her new pup.
