Default Need advice about transition back to crate at night

Hi guys---

It has been a while since I have posted, but I do check in and read posts here often. I've got a dilemma on my hands that I could really use your advice on.

Violet will be 1 year old next month, and she's doing great. We love the little thing so much! Over the past 5 or 6 months she has gotten used to sleeping with us (my daughter and me) at night. That has been fine until recently - when she has had a couple of accidents on my bed, and also now my job has changed and is requiring me to do more travelling. Violet (every night) wakes me up at least twice to take her to the potty. Which I have gotten used to and I'm ok with it..... but when I go out of town, people (mostly my mom) stays here with my daughter and Violet.

The night routine really is a lot to ask someone to do. My mom can't ever sleep because every time Violet moves she thinks she has to go to the bathroom. Alternatively, when we put Violet in the kitchen (she gets gated in the kitchen when we leave the house), she barks her pretty little head off and noone can sleep that way either. This is all my fault for getting her in the habit of sleeping with us. We all do love it , but it just isn't going to work with the babysitters we have coming over.

So, I am really looking to you guys for advice here. How can I make the transition out of my bed something that is not traumatic for Violet? I don't have to crate her... I can just put her in the kitchen, but in a way I think the crate would be easier because then it would be a transferable nightly routine if my mom had to take Violet overnight or whatever.

Thanks so much in advance,
Cheryl
