I have to rephrase my comment. You don't have to put them under to get the tattoo. Mine both need a little dental work and have to be put under anyway and I am doing their tattoos while they're asleep. I don't want them to be hurting or scared by the whole process. I know, I hate anytime you have to put a small dog under. I wouldn't do it just for a tattoo. I do agree with Monica about the tattoo being a visible marking that would make it hard for a theif to sell or keep. I feel like you can never be too careful with the protection of your "kids".
