well, I'm going to say that it works both ways for me. We got our baby in Dec so we chose the pad. Hubby took him out one warm day and he went all on his own. We kept watching his habits and noticed when he pooped and took him out 1st thing in am. He does both to this day and if we wake up too late on weekend he just uses pad. He seems to pee a lot so it's nice that he can use the pad. We have gone for long car rides and been out for a long day and he holds its when he has too but it's nice to know he doesn't have to with the pad. And it's nice to know that I don't have to worry if I get caught in traffic coming home. Good luck whichever way you choose.
