I have done a lot of research on this matter. And have made a thread not too long ago about this subject. I feel that the chip is only for the very few people who would even turn in a yorkie if by chance it got lost. Now tattooing sounds better to me. You can register the tattoo and if lost or stolen, I think it betters the chances of getting your dog back with such a noticeable marking. I think a thief will have a harder time selling or even keeping a dog that is tatooed. I have talked to my vet and he does not do tattoos, but he will give me some numbers of vets that do when I take Gus in for his yearly shots next week. Of course I will ask more question while I am there. I read that it doesn't hurt dogs like it hurts us. I have talked to people who have had thier dogs tattooed and some said that it didnt bother them in the least bit and others said that the dogs were a bit frightened by the buzzing of the needle.
