I gave mine 1 drop before each feeding but in a matter of a couple hours he was at full strength so I stopped. So I had given him "maybe" 2 drops.
Another trick that has worked for me is to put some of my own saliva on the nipple and they will latch right on, but if he is weak at this point, he most likely isn't going to have the strength until you get him going.
Make sure to warm him up before you try to feed him.
