Amitriptyline is known by the brand name of Elavil. In humans it is used for depression and anxiety. In humans there isn't an immediate effect-most patients begin to notice effects after several weeks so don't stop when you don't see immediate results. Also, this is not a drug that you can just stop. We generally taper our patients off slowly. I hope it works for him
