Greetings from Lola and I Hello Everyone!
Lola and I would like to say hello to everyone. Lola joined our family 2 weeks ago and has become the center of everyone's attention.
I knew absolutely nothing about Yorkies but decided to adopt her because my instincts told me that she does have some health issues and deserved a fighting chance and would not get it in her current situation.
Reading through this forum has been comforting and provided me with some very valuable information and recources. I'd like to thank all that take the time to share their knowledge and provide support.
Lola is one of eight (Yes,eight!) and the smallest of the litter. She is 5 months now and weighs 3lbs, has a funny walk and wobbles. All her siblings weigh between 7 and 10lbs at this point.
My routine vet does suspect a liver shunt and we immediately scheduled testing.
I would love to share the test results with you and get some feedback from those that are familiar with liver shunts.
Her x-rays showed that her liver is not small. It is healthy looking with the exception of some slight calcification.
Her BUN/Creatinine Ratio was high 48 (lab says normal is 4-27)
Her BAP
Pre-meal 17 (lab says 10 is normal)
Post-meal 85.4 (lab says 20 is normal)
The rest of her blood work was all normal.
Her Urinealysis showed her WBC high 4-10 (lab says normal should be 0-3)
At this point, we have a consult scheduled for Tues with a specialist and having an ultrasound done.
As a precaution, I have been feeding her a home cooked low protein diet.
Thanks again!! |
