Even if purchasing from a private party, you should have a contract/bill of sale that spells out exactly what you are getting, and responsible for. Is the dog neutered/spayed? Has it had health problems? How old is it? If you find out it has a serious genetic problem will the seller help with medical bills? You should know all this before you purchase the dog.
