The long and short of it ---UPDATE Is that I know only a little more than I did this morning.
He checked her out fairly thoroughly, looked at the mole and said it "doesn't appear squamous." Unfortunately, that' s the best kind to treat. So it's likely melanoma.
He did say that even if it is melanoma, it can be removed and because it has only been a few months that it has been changing, that it might not have spread. (They like to attack lymph nodes and organs if they're allowed to go untreated.)
She got a referral to a dermatologist and has an appt. now for next Monday (the 28th) at 10 with him. She'll need to get blood work done which I had hoped we'd get today, but no dice. (Requires fasting, so probably next week.) Usually, though not always, the bloodwork will show something weird if it's cancerous.
