And an afterthought because there are so many of you new to obedience training on this thread:

Always question your instructor if you believe they are having you do something that is not in the best interest of your dog.

When I took my first couple classes, the instructors were good, but they were ignorant of small-dog issues. Like a collapsing trachea. They had me hook the leash up to his collar and give him minor 'corrections' when he needed them.

I didn't know any better, so I figured they knew what they were talking about. It wasn't until someone on YT questioned me on it that I changed my ways. He now uses only a harness with the leash hooked in front. But sometimes he coughs, and I'm not sure if it's reverse sneezing or trachea problems. If it's trachea, there's a chance it's my fault.
