Love me cody posted some links in OT. I just search for free pictures (of hearts, flowers, whatever) and wallpaper until I find something I like.
I see what you mean about the photos getting covered up. If you make them smaller it might help and if you add a picture in your profile it opens the top area up more...the send a message bar starts lower.
