We leave the water out all the time...as the girls got older they learned to hold their bladders during the night...I live in Texas and it is always hot so I don't want the girls to get to thirsty...but I do know that my brother does pick up the water for his new puppy so she doesn't pee during the night and she does fine!! I think it all depends on you and your enviornment!!!
