There was definitely black residue rubbing off onto my hands while I was brushing and oiling him, and the same when I washed a section. What alarmed me was when washing didn't seem to be changing the color. Stuff was coming off but the hair still had a definite brown color to it. Well, I feel better that it's not hopeless yet. If I can get him back to normal I'll need advice on safe ways to darken him a bit for showing. Thanks again
