Yes definitely don't go to a pet shop. It may be tempting because it's the fastest/easiest way to get a puppy but in the long run it may not be the best decision. I would go to the sites suggested above and really do the research and take your time. it may seem like it's taking forever, but it's better than getting a sick puppy/supporting puppy mills.
