Click on that person's name and you will see a pull down menu. One of the last things listed is ...add to contacts. When it pulls up that screen it has a check box if you want to add them as your friend.
When you accept someone as a friend, make sure the box is checked to ask them to be your friend too. If that makes sense! lol!
