Answers In answer to some of the questions in the thread above, yes, the puppy I purchased was a Yorkie. She was registered ACA, which I realize is questionable, but I thought at the time they had some guidelines. I found out later, they do not. This organization would not work with me at all. I wanted them to not register any more of the breeder's dogs, filled out all the paperwork they required, got my vet to write a letter, all to no avail. this organization could care less. I bought the puppy from a lady in Gettysburg, PA, who I thought bred the dog. Of course I found out later she was getting some of her puppies from this Amish breeder to up her profits. I contacted the town of Gettysburg, the county, and was able to learn that in PA all kennels/breeders should be registered with the Pa Dept of Agriculture. I contacted them and although they listened, they more or less told me they could do nothing. I had recourse in civil court, but they were not able to shut down these Amish breeders. To be honest, all I really understood was I heard a lot of double talk and no actual explanations about why they could do nothing. I honestly believe that PA does not want to take on the Amish. As someone else said, they think of these puppies as livestock. Every animal in their possession serves a purpose of some kind, no pets. That is what they believe. I am a strong believer in freedom of religion, but when it involves the lives of puppies, I fail to see how that involves religion, but evidently it does.
I still have my beautiful Joy who is the carrier of the hypotrichosis and one of her puppies. I was able to find people who wanted my other 2 very "unique" babies and they have given them wonderful homes. My male Yorkie was bought from an AKC registered breeder in TN. We traveled down there to pick him up and when we decided to get Joy we bought from the lady in PA mainly because it was so much closer. I know that if Joy is a carrier of this disease that there's a very good likelihood that they have other dogs they are breeding and selling that have health problems and the sad part is people will buy from them and in all probability go through some of the same heartbreak I have. I found this web site while searching for information on the disease Joy carries. I wish I had found it first, I would have been better educated and maybe avoided my mistake. This is a wonderful place to find information. I thank each and every person who takes the time to pass on information and advice that we can all learn from. |
