Coco had a similar experience. She was pregnant and getting bigger, but when we had the ultrasound it showed that there had been three puppies, but only one was viable. She reabsorbed the other two and gave birth to her one little puppy, Bindi. Bindi was healthy in every way and has grown into a beautiful little girl. I have the right to breed her once and can't wait for her to have babies.
We believe that because that breeding was a "line" breeding, the genetics were toxic. However, this time Coco had four healthy little guys -- different father. So I don't think that this means there will be any lasting effects because of it.
