that was one of the things that i was going to suggest. you also want to make sure that once they barking stops you try to get your dogs attention on something else (making them sit or lie down next to you is a good idea) then you can reward them with a toy or treat or just verbal praise. that way... your pup will start to figure out that when i want to bark if i come sit instead ill get rewarded.. if i bark i get the squirt bottle.
