Hello and welcome to YT. Well, I think your Max is very, very frustrated and a bit confused and traumatized. First off if he isn't neutered, I strongly suggest getting that done. Next he needs to go for a couple of really long fast paced walks every single day. Next, use a belly band if you can't watch him, but don't crate him so much.
