most of us are dealing with Luxating Patella (Slipping knee caps) that's the problem right??? did the vet give you a grade... like 1 2 3 or 4??? layla is grade 2 but the vet is not worried. There are many on here who have gone through surgery. I'm sure they will post on here to help you but try searching LP surgery. Good luck!
