Pepper didn't like to be brushed at first either but we just kept at it. granted she didn't have near the reaction yours did. Pepper growls at me when I go to dry her off with a towel after her bath, just have to strongly tell her "no growl" or "no bite". you could let winston smell the brush and play with it for a while, or try to brush him out when he is drowsy, thats when I cut pepper's nails
