Yep, it is the season, I think they will probably be ready there in a couple more nice days! I first bread mine with egg and flour, then fry them in butter. The first batch is always the best.
I just started hunting them myself about 3 years ago and have gotten pretty good sighting them now, so hang in there you will get better!
