Thinking back, we have actually purchased three dogs from pet shops. We didn't know what a puppy mill was back then. But I think we were meant to have those dogs.
The first a schnauzer. He was in a wire cage high up above the other dogs. He was so grateful to get down and interact with us how could we possibly leave him. He was beautiful and the most fun dog I've ever had.
The second was a Yorkie, and she lived to 15 years, a sweet sweet little girl.
The third was a little poodle that we gave to my father when his poodle died after 18 years. We put the puppy in a box and handed it to him at Christmas. When he opened the box, the puppy jumped up into his arms and they were pals for the next 12 years.
So in some ways taking a puppy home from the pet store is like rescuing them from the pound. Its a bad situation, but they are already here, why condemn them to live unhappy lives. I'm on the bandwagon for that!
