We took a trick training class, and he got more and more spoiled with the treats he would eat. I would suggest giving him ½ his normal food during this period and using the other half for training, or use all the food given for training. Joey gained over a pound in tricks class and for the past 3 months has been on a diet. Vet wanted him to lose it slowly. We would buy expensive treats that he seemed to love at first, but he would eventually hold out for something else. Chicken and string cheese were his favorites. Don't feed him before class, most of the training is done at home that's why I suggested his regular food for that. Although they suggest soft treats, I don't think it's important, what's important is it be small. I still do the training at home and his breakfast food is all used for the trick training. I use Royal Canine for yorkies, and it's the perfect size for treats. |
