I use heartguard plus year around...it never really gets cold for long here and mosquitos are aweful. and heartworms are very prevelant in this area....I don't want to risk it..that treatment is so hard on them if they do get heartworms and can be fatal. I don't know how common it is where you live though...it is something to think about depending on the area you are in
