Default Signs of Tracheal Collapse

My 8 year old yorkie has had an occasional barking cough for several years. I didn't think anything of it until recently it has been much more persistent. She's having one of these coughing fits (and this is just when I happen to be out there and catch it-could be more often) about everyother day. Does anyone have any impute for what to watch for and what I can do to treat this? I've read on the internet some now, she is not really over weight maybe just slightly so we will work on that. Anything else?
