I think in general most people either free feed or give 3 meals a day to puppies up to the age of 6 months. They are so active during this time and they usually do not get overweight. I would be careful about restricting a puppies intake because all their organs and bones are still growing and forming and you do not want them to be deficient in calories during this important time of development. That is why puppy food is higher calories, protein and fat. Of course ask your vet what is right for your situation, but I have had Yorkies for 17 years so I have had quite a few pups!! Good Luck!
