I am going to call dh in the AM, and the family is supposed to be looking for vet records for me, so I can probably just have him ask what type of food they were giving him too (if he remembers!).

You could use the chicken and rice by itself for a few days if he is having GI upset.
This might happen when you switch from his old food too quickly.
If they only gave you a little bit, I would give 75% of that and 25% of what you want to switch to for a few days, then 50%-50%, then 25%-75%, then 100% new. It should take no LESS than 4-7 days and hopefully longer to switch. If at all possible, feed what he has been getting for the first few weeks though.
