I use a baby playpen from Toys R Us. it is raised up off the floor, so you don't have to worry about your wooden floors. I put rubberized baby pads in the bottom to protect the pad and put a pee pad on one end and a bed on the other. There is room for water/food bowls too. So far this works well for whelping and raising puppies.

I have just ordered a pen without a bottom that is larger, and would like to know what people put in the bottom of their pens also. I have dark wood floors and am worried about keeping them clean and not ruining them too.
