Lola does this too. I don't think she likes to stick her face deep down into the bowl. So, I bought little plates in the baby/toddler section of Target. I use them for her wet food and it has been a success. They are dishwasher safe too, which is a plus. But, I still haven't been able to break her of the habit of tossing pieces of kibble around in the air before she will eat it though.
