The weight charts are just estimates. Most breeders recommend free feeding until the age of 8 month. Yorkies are a small breed dog and can use all their calorie reserves suddenly, so it important to always have food available to keep them from getting hypoglycemia. You never want to try to control ultimate growth by restricting their food. Important development is happening at this time, brain development, bones, teeth, muscles, your overall dog's health is dependent on proper nutrition at this time. The puppy will grow to the size genetics has determined, and for some Yorkies this is well over 7 pounds. Normal puppies will not over-eat if giving nutritious food, just limit snacks.
