My tip for barking:

I've had my yorkie puppy for a month. The first few days he kept on whining and barking--even growling--whenever I put him in his crate. A trick that worked for me was to use a towel to cover his crate whenever he barked. So when i put him in his crate, I would say, "go to your room" cheerily, leave a small treat and say 'good boy' once he was in. If he started whining I would ignore him. The moment he barked, I would immediately say a firm "NO" and quickly cover the crate with a towel. He didn't like that he couldn't see me so he learned quickly to never bark - and hasn't in the last three weeks!
