Let me tell you what I did when Esme was spayed. We actually had a birthday party for a chihuahua the week after Esme's surgery. Esme still had stiches but I didn't want her to miss it. I was also worried that another dog would accidently hurt her stiches, so this is what I did. I got one of those things you put on your arm when it's hurt or sprained. It's long and you wrap it around your arm or other body part. Anyhow, I cut a small section, loosely (loosely because if it's tight it will cut the circulation) tied it around Esme and tied it in a knot on her back. She was able to socialize with the other dogs (although I kept a VERY close eye on her) and her stiches were covered.

Also, a snug tee shirt might do the trick too...
