I have one with a "cotton" coat also.... when I finally got her all detangled I tried several kinds of shampoo/conditioner. Several things worked for me. Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner keep her hair pretty well unmatted. I also liked Earthbath Puppy Shampoo, Bio-Groom Silk Conditioning Creme Rinse Concentrate, and finally a detangling spray by Crazy Dog, Baby Dog Grooming Spray. In desperation I even used my own Biosilk Silk Therapy, but haven't needed to use it since i found these other products.
All of these were found at either Petco or Pet Food Express. Good luck, these coats can be a challenge.
