When Maxi was a puppy he was wearing breakaway collar only when I was home and he was by my side. My place was also puppy proof 100% and still is. I heard a lot of horror stories. Now that he grew up he wears breakaway collar all the time with his tags. The only time we put regular collar on him when we go somewhere (most of the times thou he has his breakaway) and of course we always use harness when we are out.
