Oh my! You are so lucky you were not hurt badly by this! I am so glad you were able to keep our senses and push the dang dog off of you, I would of freaked out and froze on the spot. Too bad a police officer was not around when this happened to you so more could be done to the owner, puppy or not, I am sure that guy has a clue that his dog was aggressive.

I do not trust bigger dogs at all, when I was young my dad got bit in the face by a Doberman Pincher. My sisters and I were standing right off to the side of our driveway when he attacked my dad, and I remember the ambulance taking him away to go get fixed up , he had to get a lot of stitches to close up the gashes on his face. I guess seeing that happen to my dad just makes me leary around all big breeds. The Doberman was Policed Trained dog and I guess he just snapped.
