My vet gave me a hard time about home cooking....but not because he was being difficult...when questioned...he admits that very little attention is given to the topic in vet school. He was concerned about it being nutritionally balanced (you could make cardboard nutrtionally balanced if you add enough to it) so I had him do bloodwork and ever since then, he does not fight me on it.  |
My vet told me the same thing when I asked about home cooking and the best diet for my dogs. She thought that home cooking was good if done right, but also thought that good dog foods offer all the nutrition necessary. She said that very little attention is given to nutrition in vet school. I hope that improves as time goes by with so much attention on pet nutrition.
